Knee Meniscus Tear

The meniscus in the knee provides cushion for the knee joint and helps with distributing the body weight into the lower extremities. A tear in the meniscus most commonly occurs with a traumatic event or with excessive degeneration in the knee joint.

With a traumatic event, a tear of the inside meniscus can occur with a tear of the ACL (see below) with a direct forward impact below the knee when the knee is bent.
