MILA is a raw whole food offering the safest, most effective and most natural delivery system of Omega 3s. It is also rich in antioxidants (a key component of phytonutrients), fiber, protein, plus calcium, magnesium, selenium, iron, and potassium.
MILA is a proprietary blend of the Salvia Hispanica L seed (more commonly known as Chia) that has been recognized by the FDA as a food. There are no known allergens; it is also pesticide-free and gluten-free, trans-fat free, sugar-free, with almost no taste or smell.
One serving of MILA contains 8x more Omega-3 than a serving of Atlantic farmed or wild salmon.
WHAT ARE OMEGA 3's?
Omega 3’s are essential fatty acids, which cannot be synthesized or manufactured by the human body; they are essential nutrients which must be obtained from food. The 'essential' fatty acids were given their name when researchers found that they were essential to normal growth in young children and animals. (the specific names of the important omega 3’s are alpha linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)).
The health benefits of the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids — DHA and EPA omega-3 — are the best known. Historically, the Greenland Inuit people consumed large amounts of fat with omega 3’s from seafood, but displayed virtually no cardiovascular disease. Similarly, the high level of omega-3 fatty acids consumed by the Eskimos reduced triglycerides, heart rate, blood pressure, and atherosclerosis.
In 2004, the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) stated that consumption of EPA and DHA fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
The Canadian Government has recognized the importance of DHA omega-3 and supports the following claim: "DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, facilitates the normal development of the brain, eyes and nerves."
Omega 3’s are often referred to as anti-inflammatory, but in fact they are just less pro-inflammatory than Omega 6’s. A recent study by the Harvard School of Public Health showed that there are up to 96,000 preventable deaths each year in the US alone due to low Omega 3 intake.
BENEFITS OF OMEGA-3’s
Omega 3’s have been found to help in the following conditions:
Cardiac Health - A growing body of literature suggests that a higher intake of Omega 3’s may afford some degree of protection against coronary heart disease.
Omega 3’s have been shown to reduce blood pressure, blood triglyceride levels and the risk of secondary and primary heart attack. In a study published in March 2007, patients with high triglycerides and poor coronary artery health were given 4 grams a day of a combination of Omega 3 essential fatty acids. Those patients with very unhealthy triglyceride levels (above 500 mg/dl) reduced their triglycerides on average 45% and their cholesterol by more than 50%.
Omega 3’s have also been found to benefit cardiac arrhythmias. In 1999, the Lancet reported the results of major clinical study in 11,324 patients with a recent myocardial infarction. Treatment 1 gram per day of Omega 3 fatty acids reduced the occurrence of death, cardiovascular death and sudden cardiac death by 20%, 30% and 45% respectively. Omega 3’s have also been known to help raise levels of HDL (”good”) cholesterol and lower levels of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol.
Brain Health - there is preliminary evidence that Omega 3’s may help depression and anxiety. Biological marker studies indicate deficits in omega−3 fatty acids in people with depressive disorders, while several treatment studies indicate therapeutic benefits from omega-3 supplementation. Deficits in omega-3 fatty acids have also been identified as a contributing factor to mood disorders and offer a potential rational treatment approach.
Meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials demonstrate a statistically significant benefit of Omega 3’s in unipolar and bipolar depression. Omega 3 fatty acids are believed to have membrane-enhancing capabilities in brain cells by playing a role in the fortification of the myelin sheath, promoting neuronal growth, and affecting the dopamine system to help reduce symptoms of Schizophrenia.
Omega-3 fatty acids have also gained popularity for children with ADHD and autism. A 2004 survey found that 29% of surveyed parents used essential fatty acid supplements to treat children with autism spectrum disorders.Rheumatoid Arthritis - research in 2005 and 2006 has suggested that the in-vitro anti-inflammatory activity of Omega 3 fatty acids translates into clinical benefits for rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. Cohorts of neck pain patients and of rheumatoid arthritis sufferers have demonstrated benefits comparable to those receiving standard NSAID’s. Omega 3’s are also believed to help reduced inflammation and cartilage and bone breakdown in both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Varicose Veins - Omega 3’s stimulate blood circulation, increase the breakdown of fibrin, a compound involved in clot and scar formation. This helps prevent and reduce formation of varicose veins.
Cancer - several studies report possible anti-cancer effects of Omega 3 fatty acids, particularly in breast, colon and prostate cancer. However, more research is needed in this area.
Increased Energy - this includes an increase in metabolic rate, energy levels and stamina.
Clearer Skin, Stronger Nails, Shinier Hair - Omega 3 deficiency often leads to dry, flaky skin, limp and dull hair, and brittle nails.
Immune System - Omega 3’s regulate immune and inflammatory responses. They strengthen the immune system by helping to manufacture prostoglandins, which kill germs and invaders.
Decreased Possibility of Infection - Omega 3’s have anti-fungal, anti-yeast, and anti-microbial properties, helping to protect against infections.
Stronger Bones - Omega 3’s aid in the transport of minerals that keep bones strong and also help make bone cells, helping to prevent osteoporosis.
Risk of Fish Oil as an Omega 3 Source - a perceived risk of fish oil Omega 3 supplementation has been heavy metal poisoning by the body's accumulation of traces of heavy metals, in particular mercury, lead, nickel, arsenic and cadmium as well as other contaminants (PCP’s, furans, dioxins, and PBDE’s), which potentially might be found especially in less-refined fish oil supplements. The FDA recommends that total dietary intake of Omega 3 fatty acids from fish not exceed 3 grams per day, of which no more than 2 grams per day are from nutritional supplements.
Consumers of oily fish should be aware of the potential presence of heavy metals and fat-soluble pollutants like PCB’s and dioxin which may accumulate up the food chain. The Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio - clinical studies indicate that the ingested ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 fatty acids is important to maintaining cardiovascular health.
Omega 3’s and Omega 6’s should be consumed in a balanced proportion; a healthy ratio being from 1:1 to 4:1. Sadly, typical Western diets provide ratios of between 10:1 and 30:1, dramatically skewed toward Omega 6’s. Mila contains approximately three to four times as much Omega 3’s as Omega 6’s and one scoop per day will help bring the ratio down to a more normal, healthy level.

Mila Compared to other Chia Products
All Chia is not created equal. Factors contributing to the quality of Chia include: specific location of growth, amount of sun or shade, altitude, rainfall, climate, and type of soil. Mila is a proprietary blend of seeds taken from a variety of ideal growth locations. The Chia seeds in Mila are sliced through a patented process available only to Lifemax, developed by Dr. Wayne Coates, “The Father of Chia”, who works exclusively for Lifemax. Slicing makes the nutrients more bio-available.
Grinding actually damages the oil in the seed. Dr. Coates is responsible for having planted every commercial crop available today. He knows personally which locations are the best and which seeds are the most nutritious. No other company on the market today guarantees the nutrition provided in their seed through outside independent laboratory testing. Lifemax can provide proof of outside laboratory quality testing.
